Stupid things that politicians say

I  have contributed to the Obama-Bided campaign so my mailbox is never empty.  I just received an email under Joe Biden’s signature saying: “It’s not hyperbole to suggest that this is the starkest choice for president that this country has had in my lifetime”  Now that is simply untrue. I am a registered voter who votes Democratic almost all the time, so I will vote for Obama in a few weeks, but I get tired of stupid things said during the campaign.  Certainly the choice between Johnson and Goldwater was as ‘stark’ as the choice we have today.  Also one needs to remember that Johnson, a Southern Democrat, was on domestic policy as far to the left as any candidate.  The only ‘conservative’ issue was the Vietnam War.  Obama has governed in a way that would have been considered moderate Republican only a generation ago.   If we were comparing Mitt as governor to Obama as president we would see 2 moderates. It is only the campaigns that have resurrected Romney’s evil right-wing twin.  The GOP calls Obama a socialist and I am sure in his college days Obama was probably far to the left of todays Democrats, but like Clinton who socialized with people to the left of him, Obama has done the same thing while acting the pragmatist during the day.
